Bike Maintenance Mechanic & Customer Service Representatives

Cycle Whistler is a prominent retailer in the Village of Whistler that specializes in bicycles and paddleboard rentals, and repair services. Situated in the bustling heart of Whistler Village, our store is dedicated to providing top-notch customer service and fostering a vibrant cycling community. Position Overview:
As an Outdoor Adventure Rental Team Member at Cycle Whistler, we have two positions available. Customer Service Provider and Bike Maintenance Mechanic.

These role requires a passion for cycling, paddleboards, adventure, excellent communication skills, and a strong commitment to ensuring customer satisfaction.

1) The ideal customer service provider will be an integral part of our team, responsible for delivering outstanding customer service, managing point-of-sale transactions, coordinating rentals, maintaining merchandise displays, and assisting with various other tasks related to bicycle and paddleboard retail operations. The ideal candidate should be dependable, willing to learn, and have basic knowledge, experience, or interest in bike maintenance and repair.

2) The bike maintenance mechanic will be responsible for performing routine maintenance and repairs on rental bikes and documenting all maintenance work. When not performing bike maintenance or in busy times you will also be responsible to support the team with regular customer service.

Key Responsibilities!

BIKE MAINTENANCE

  • Following the routine of doing the maintenance of our bikes

  • Making sure that all the bikes are in the best condition possible at all times

  • Performing minor services, repairs, and tune ups

  • Keep detailed records of bike maintenance and repair in our Bike Rental Reporting

  • Responsible for declaring if a bike is safe or unsafe for rental, making the adjustments in our Reporting and assigning the proper repair job to the right 3rd party person, if needed.

  • Repairing all bike repairs on our cruiser bikes and Ebikes, and coordinating with warranty claims efficiently on our E Bikes.

CUSTOMER SERVICE:

  • Greet and assist customers in a friendly and professional manner.

  • Provide expert product knowledge and recommendations to help customers find the right rentals, gear, and safety.

  • Address customer inquiries, concerns, and requests promptly and effectively.

  • Handle customer returns, rental exchanges, and safety.

  • Ensure a positive rental experience for every customer by offering personalized assistance and support.

Point of Sale:

  • Process sales transactions, and waivers, accurately and efficiently using our point-of-sale system.

  • Handle cash, credit card, and other forms of payment securely.

  • Verify pricing, discounts, and promotions before completing transactions.

  • Maintain proper cash handling procedures and reconcile daily sales reports.

  • Assist customers with product inquiries, availability, and special orders.

Rentals:

  • Manage the rental process from start to finish, including paddleboards, bike selection, paperwork, waivers, and payment processing.

  • Provide safety instructions and basic maintenance tips to rental customers and inspection of return rentals

  • Perform routine maintenance checks on rental bikes to ensure they are in safe and working condition.

  • Coordinate reservations, scheduling, and availability of rental inventory.

  • Assist with cleaning, servicing, and repairing rental bikes as needed.

Merchandising:

  • Ensure merchandise displays are visually appealing, organized, and well-stocked at all times.

  • Rotate inventory and update displays to showcase new arrivals, promotions, and seasonal products.

  • Monitor inventory levels and assist in restocking shelves and storage areas as needed.

  • Conduct regular inventory counts and assist with inventory management tasks.

  • Collaborate with team members to implement merchandising strategies and promotional campaigns.

General Tasks:

  • Assist in opening and closing procedures, including preparing the store for daily operations and securing the premises at the end of the day.

  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness throughout the store, including retail floor, and back stock.

  • Support other team members and departments as needed to ensure smooth store operations.

  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and ongoing professional development activities.

  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Be Canadian citizens, permanent resident, hold a working visa, or persons to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and

  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada under relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

  • Previous experience in bike repair and maintenance is an asset

  • Previous retail experience, preferably in a bicycle shop or related industry.

  • Passion for cycling and knowledge of bicycles, accessories, and cycling equipment.

  • Passion for paddleboarding and knowledge of water activities, accessories, and equipment.

  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally and courteously with customers.

  • Proficiency in using point-of-sale systems and handling cash transactions accurately.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.

Bike maintenance mechanic additional requirements:

  • Knowledge of bike components and parts.

  • Experience with bike tools and equipment.

  • Basic mechanical aptitude for performing minor bicycle repairs and adjustments.

  • Ordering parts as need online and developing and maintaining relationship with suppliers

  • Flexible availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

  • This person needs to be able to work with cruiser bikes (repair and exchange bike parts) and E Bike minor repairs.

SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS:

  • We are looking for full time (4 days a week, 40 hours) and part time (3 days a week, 30 hours) during the summer / fall months, with potential for longer employment through the winter with Underground Tuning. 

  • Our shifts are 10 hours long, with a 1 hour break.

  • To be considered for the team, you need to have full availability on Saturday and/or Sunday, with good availability Monday to Friday daytime. NOTE: 4 or 3 days a week shifts.

COMPENSATION:

  • Starting at $18.00 per hour - $50.00 per hour but will be negotiated based on experience and certifications of the successful candidate

  • Bike Maintenance Mechanic ill be negotiated based on experience and certifications of the successful candidate

  • 4% vacation pay, as outlined by Employment Standards Act, is payable on all paycheques. If time off is required, a formal request must be submitted at minimum two weeks in advance and be approved by your manager.
